How it's calculated

Final mark = (School mark × 0.7) + (Diploma exam mark × 0.3)

Example: a school mark of 78% and a diploma exam score of 65% gives a final mark of (78 × 0.7) + (65 × 0.3) = 54.6 + 19.5 = 74.1%.

How much is a diploma exam worth in Alberta?

The same 70/30 split applies to every diploma course: Math 30-1 and 30-2, English 30-1 and 30-2, Social Studies 30-1 and 30-2, Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Physics 30 and Science 30.

What do I need on my diploma exam to pass the course?

You pass with a final mark of at least 50%. To find the exam mark you need:

  1. Multiply your school mark by 0.7
  2. Subtract that from 50
  3. Divide what's left by 0.3

Example: with a 60% school mark you already have 42 points, so about 27% on the exam is enough to pass.
